Principal's Bio:
Dr. Avi Saha is an innovator, business leader and an entrepreneur who is motivated solely by metrics driven bottom line results. He is currently focused on providing tools and services for getting organizations to a state of optimal IT-- bringing about significant cost savings, IT improvements and IT risk reduction in the process. Most recently he was a senior IT executive at ADP, where over period of 4+ years he assumed increasing responsibilities and managed the shared web, database, application, caching, security, AAA (Authentication/Authorization/Accounting) and messaging services supporting 300+ client facing applications with 7B+ revenue stream and over 28M end users. He led transformative change and set the direction for ADP overall infrastructure architecture subsequently building out ADP web and database functions in a private cloud model which has resulted in the delivery of significant improvements in performance (40-70% across the board), availability (by a factor) and with significant cost efficiencies (in the millions of dollars)-- some of the key drivers for cloud computing paradigm.
Prior to ADP, Avi held multiple leadership roles in IBM where he led technical strategy for the IBM software group, invented graphics algorithms, developed languages, built large scale SMP systems, designed chips, and enhanced and verified the architectures for the POWERPc based SMP systems. Avi has also served on the board of directors of standards bodies, been an invited speaker and panelist in many leading industry forums and an adjunct faculty at UT Austin serving on Ph.D. dissertation committees. Avi has been a key thought leader in grid-computing, intelligent systems, autonomic computing and has played a key role in setting the overall industry and IBM direction in the area of portals. He has over 50 patents and publications to his name and holds MS and Doctorate degrees in Computer Engineering, both from the University of Texas at Austin, in the areas of parallel processing and neural networks respectively.
